A bouquet of over 100 works of twentieth-century art, looking at how the flower has been a ?xture of modern art and served as a potent symbol for artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, Gauguin, Picasso, as well as young blooms such as Marc Quinn and Pippilotti Rist. The Flower as Image tells the story of a humble motif that despite all modernist aspirations against tradition, figure and sheer beauty remained a challenge to the artists and contributed to the transformation of modern painting while later becoming the object of contemporary art also in the new media.
