Kara Walker (b. 1969, Stockton / CA) is an African American artist, who makes cut-paper silhouettes and light and shadow projections, in which she presents scenes of the racist stereotypes, and the brutality of slavery. She studied at Rhode Island School of Design and at Atlanta College of Art and was a Professor of the Columbia University. She lives and works in New York.
