Nedko Solakov (b. 1957, Cherven Bryag, Bulgaria), based in Sofia, is a conceptual artist who uses drawing, painting, texts, installation and performance to question social and political structures, including his own position within the art scene.
His work "Top Secret" (1989-1990), which documents his collaboration with the Bulgarian secret service from 1978 to 1983 on index cards, triggered a major controversy in 1990.
His work was featured in the Venice Biennials 1993, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2007; documenta 12 in 2007 and documenta 13 in 2012; Istanbul Biennale 1992, 1995 and 2005, among others.
Nedko Solakov studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia (mural painting) and at the Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten (HISK) in Antwerp.
