Joan Miró (b. 1893, Montroig/Barcelona, d. 1983, Palma de Mallorca) was one of the most important artists, and he is also considered a precursor of Abstract Expressionism, and is admired for his colorful surrealist dream worlds, created in the 1920s and 1930s.
Joan Miró:
"Klee was the decisive encounter of my life. Under his influence, my painting freed itself from all earthly ties. Klee made it clear to me that a spot, a spiral, even a dot can be as much the subject of painting as a face, a landscape, or a monument."
