John Baldessari (b. 1931, National City / California; d. 2020) was one of the most important contemporary artists, who initiated concept art and appropriation art. He participated at the documenta 5 and 7 in Kassel (1972 and 1982), Whitney Biennale in New York (1983) and Venice Biennale (1997). John Baldessari had a Professorship at the University of California, Los Angeles and at the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia.
